In 1992, at twenty-six, Dimitri opened Lyhnari on a quiet side street at the top of Papadiamantis, behind the High School.

It has been run by the same family ever since, and it is still on the same street. What began as a small taverna has become part of the Skiathos dining scene — traditional at heart, but never quite standing still.

A lyhnari is an oil lamp. There is one on the wall by the door, and it is where the name comes from.

The garden

Step through the gate and you are outside

Ivy over the walls, jasmine in the evening air, terracotta pots, blue chairs and white cloths under the vine. The lamps come on as the light goes.

Our cooks have years behind them. The menu is Greek at its core — the dishes people come back for — with a handful of international plates for anyone who wants them.

Everything is cooked with good ingredients and served generously. Honest value, in a garden where nobody hurries you along.
